Garden Assistant

Position Summary: Arborbrook Christian Academy Garden Assistant supports the school’s Nature Studies program by maintaining the campus’s edible and ornamental gardens and nature trails.  Nature Studies is an integral part of Arborbrook’s educational philosophy with K-8 students meeting once a week to cultivate their class garden beds, explore the trails and discover God’s creation.  


Essential Functions: 

  • Assist with ongoing garden beautification including weeding, trimming, laying down of mulch or soil, watering and other tasks as directed by the nature studies teacher

  • Communicate effectively with parent volunteers and mobilize parent teams to regularly maintain various garden spaces and nature trails

  • Meet in person with parent volunteers as needed to guide their efforts and increase knowledge of beautification tasks (i.e. plant identification/weeding, pest control, equipment use, etc.)

  • Organize and ensure routine maintenance of garden tools, equipment and other garden structures (i.e. posts, signs, garden art) 

  • Development and maintenance of outdoor classroom space

  • Assisting the Nature Studies teacher in the prep/clean up of nature study classes and periodic school produce sales. 

  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of edible and ornamental plants and garden insects

  • Enjoys working outside in a variety of weather conditions

  • Communicates effectively via email and in person with parents and staff

  • Involves frequent walking, lifting, and moving heavy objects 

  • A heart for God. He/she will be born-again, Bible-believing Christian in a growing relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  • A love for children. He/she will be kind, nurturing individuals who enjoy spending time with young people.

  • An ability to be a positive role model. He/she will do his/her best to live a life that is pleasing to God and therefore serve as a model for our young people.

Hours/Salary/Benefits

  • Hours for this position are 8:30am to 3:00pm Monday – Thursday.

  • This job begins one week before school begins and continues through the school year.

  • The hourly wage for this position is $12 per hour worked.

  • This position is eligible for a 50% tuition discount for each child attending Arborbrook.
